This scholarship is in memory of Abbey Mae Luffman who was a member of the Owego Free Academy class of 2021. Sadly, Abbey lost an 11-day battle with a rare blood disorder called Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) in January of 2020.

Abbey always wanted to help others. She planned to go into the medical/healthcare field though she was not yet decided on exactly what she wanted to do.

Abbey achieved her goals. She saved the lives of two gentlemen through organ donation. They each received one of her kidneys and one of the gentlemen also received her pancreas. Abbey had mentioned medical research, which she ended up accomplishing as well. Her liver went on for research.

The intent of the ‘Abbey Mae Luffman Memorial Scholarship’ is to help others who have similar aspirations as Abbey; someone going into the medical/healthcare field. Owego Free Academy is officially announcing and releasing the scholarship on February 22, Abbey’s birthday.
