New York Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker has a letter on his desk from Sen. Fred Akshar, 52nd Senate District including Tioga and Broome counties.

Akshar told Zucker high school graduations are some of the most memorable moments for New Yorkers, when generations of families and friends come together to celebrate all of the accomplishments of these young men and women. In addition, high school prom is such a celebrated evening that our kid’s deserve to attend, albeit in a safe setting.

If prom and graduation attendees are following the appropriate safety guidelines and reasonable accommodations are made to keep everyone safe, it’s only fair to provide this opportunity to these students and their families.

Akshar said in his letter to Zucker that the Class of 2021 deserves to enjoy the prom and get a proper sendoff as they graduate from high school.
