On Thursday, January 3, Tioga Downs Casino Resort, in Nichols, received a package addressed to a hotel guest. Further investigation revealed the package contained approximately 10 ounces of crystal methamphetamine. New York State police assigned to the casino contacted the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET). An investigation identified the hotel guest as Michael K. Champlin, age 34, of Camillus, NY.
Investigators were granted a search warrant for Champlin’s room and his vehicle. Those searches lead to the seizure of additional methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Champlin was arrested and charged with one (1) count of Attempted Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree (class B Felony). Champlin was arraigned in the Town of Nichols Court and remanded to the Tioga County jail without bail. The street value of the recovered methamphetamine was estimated to be approximately $12,000.
