New York State Police at Endwell responded Tuesday to Kentucky Avenue in the town of Union after an operator of a roll off container truck for garbage and recycling left the load ramp in an elevated position after dropping off a container. When the driver entered Kentucky Avenue from a parking lot, the load ramp height exceeded the legal height of 13 feet and 6 inches and caught on utility wires. Two utility poles were yanked to the ground, several transformers caught on fire causing the asphalt to melt.
The driver of the dump truck was briefly trapped in the truck because of the live wires. Once the power to the lines was cut, he was able to exit the truck. The driver did not suffer any injuries.
