The missing Rochester teenager who became the focus of a statewide Amber Alert has been found safe. Rochester Police say the 14-year-old girl, Joanna Coates, hadn’t been seen since Saturday when her mother reported her missing on Monday. The investigation determined that Coates was likely in a relationship with the much older man who is now accused of kidnapping her. 14-year-old Coates was found with 41-year-old Robert Gonzalez in Brooklyn. She was found unharmed. Gonzalez was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated assault charged. He will likely face kidnapping charges when the pair is returned to Rochester. Gonzalez has a criminal history, and has been in and out of jail at least three times in the last two decades.
