Elmira Police have made an arrest in connection with one of the two shootings that rocked the city Monday night.

Police say 22-year-old Jayzell McCoy has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, tied to the shooting on the 900 block of Oak Street near Maxwell Place. McCoy is currently on New York State Parole for a prior weapons conviction—he was released under supervision in June of last year. Police say more charges could be coming.

In a separate incident that same night, police have identified the man killed in the Pulaski Park shooting as 31-year-old Yasean McQueen.

Both shootings happened about 15 minutes apart around 8 p.m. Monday at different locations. Police believe the incidents are not connected and are calling them isolated. In total, five people were shot—including McQueen, who died. The other four victims are expected to recover from non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating and are asking anyone with information to call Elmira Police at 607-737-5626 or leave an anonymous tip at 607-271-HALT.
