(Vestal) – Three teams from Vestal High School teams won first and second places in their division’s problem-solving category at the New York State Odyssey of the Mind championship and qualified for the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in May at Iowa State University.
Taking first place in Division III, Region 12, was the team coached by Nicole Tulsey, which took on Problem 3 Classics include Ella Coleman, Jessica Elie, Lian Genese, Delaney Schoenfeldt and Jaelynn Wiggins.
Coached by Jeff Donacik and Jeff Horn, second-place Team Escape VRoom includes Charlotte Coker, Hridayanshu Das, Keira DeVantier, Clark Donacik, Brenden Horn, Alex Jiao and Leah Jones.
Also taking second-place was the team coached by Sumeeta Chaudhri and Tonya Jones. Their team tackled Problem 5 (Performance) Life is a Circus, and team members include Abeera Chaudhri, Nabeeha Chaudhri, Amina Haq, Molly Hubbard, Megan Jones, Ella McIntyre and Asiya Patel.
In addition to the three Vestal High School teams advancing to the World Finals, Vestal had five teams from Vestal Hills Elementary and Vestal Middle School competing in the NYS Tournament. Vestal Middle School’s team took sixth place in Division II, Problem 2, while Vestal Hills teams scored in places 8, 9, 10 and 11 in Division I.
