About Pat McDonald

Born and raised in the Valley, Pat McDonald joined Radigan Media in June of 2023 following a 20-plus year career in the newspaper business.

He started his newspaper career while he was a sophomore at Athens Area High School. Legendary Evening Times Sports Editor Glenn Rolfe needed someone to answer phones at night and Pat jumped at the chance. On his very first night on the job, he was asked if he wanted to try covering a basketball game in Athens – and that one night would lead to more than two decades in journalism.

Pat spent most of his newspaper career with the Morning Times, but also served as an editor at Stars and Stripes, a military newspaper based in Washington, DC, as well as being the sports editor at the Journal Tribune in Biddeford, Maine and the Finger Lakes Times in Geneva, New York.

During his time at his hometown newspaper, Pat would visit the old Choice 102 studio on Desmond Street and talk sports with Chuck Carver from time to time. He also broadcast games on the Choice with legends like Mike Miller and Bob Baker over the years.

“Chuck Carver was someone I always looked up to, and I will always remember my time talking sports with Chuck in the old Choice studio, and those early opportunities he gave me to call football and basketball games on my hometown radio station,” Pat said.

“Radio has always been important to me. From a legend like Chuck Carver here locally to national figures like Howard Stern, Dan Patrick, and Mike Greenburg and Mike Golic, I have spent a lot of my life glued to the radio, and I always thought about being on the other side of the microphone. I’m thrilled to be able to fulfill that dream right here with my hometown station.”

Pat is currently the host of the Choice Morning Show, weekdays from 6 to 10 a.m., while also serving as the News and Sports Director for all Radigan Media stations and as the lead play-by-play announcer for our sports broadcasts.
