Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro stopped in Tioga County on Wednesday afternoon to meet with local officials and residents following the devastating flooding brought on by Tropical Storm Debby last month.
According to WENY-TV, Shapiro said although the emergency part of the disaster is over, it’s now time to rebuild and the state was ready to help.
The state has already provided over $5 million to help with the impacts of the flooding and Tioga County has kicked in some relief funds.
Shapiro met with a variety of state and local officials during his visit, including the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, which has been on the ground doing extensive work.
This is the second time in the past three years that Tioga County has been hit with major flooding. The governor said his office will also look into ways to prevent future flooding, including the possibility of cleaning out streams in the area in a responsible manner.
