The Maine-Endwell School District, along with Broome County Legislator Jason Shaw, will host a substance abuse awareness night from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on February 27 at the school on Farm to Market Road in Endwell. The event is free and open to the public. At 5:45 p.m. the documentary “If They Had Known” will be shown in the auditorium. It highlights the current risks associated with party culture and features the story of a teen that dies at a party after mixing prescription drugs and alcohol. Following the documentary, there will be a presentation by John Olsen. Olsen is a tactical medic, EMT and firefighter in Tioga County. He will speak about his experiences in the field as a first responder. He will include information about current drug trends and what he sees happening locally. A question and answer session with a panel of local professionals in the field of substance use prevention, treatment and recovery will follow the presentation.
