UPDATE: Police Arrest 18-Year-Old In U-E High School Lock Down

On May 22, 2019, Endicott Police responded to a 911 report of a male entering Union-Endicott High School with a gun. The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of 18-year-old Derrick Abney, of Binghamton, for one count of Making a Terroristic Threat, a class “D” Felony and one count of Criminal Trespass in the 3rd degree, a class “B” Misdemeanor.

The incident began at approximately 12:15 PM when a 911 call was received from a concerned citizen regarding a male entering the high-school armed with a gun. The high school was immediately placed in “lockdown” by high-school personnel. Within three minutes of the 911 call, the suspect was taken into custody by responding Endicott Police Officers.

The investigation revealed that Abney was involved in a dispute off school grounds with an acquaintance, when he allegedly made threats indicating he was going to enter the school to commit harm to people inside. Abney then allegedly entered the school building, which prompted the 911 call. After Abney was taken into custody, multiple searches were conducted of the areas of school Abney was able to access, as well as areas surrounding the school. No weapon was located during the searches, and no one was injured.

Endicott Police were assisted at the scene by members of the New York State Police, Broome County Sheriff’s Department and Vestal Police Department.
