September 11th Memorial ceremonies were held throughout the region yesterday. They were held in Owego, Vestal, Binghamton, Sherburne, Cortland, SUNY Broome and other sites. The Owego ceremony was held at 8:46 in Hickories Park. A special remembrance was offered for Town of Owego Resident Derek James Statkevicus. He was a Vestal High School graduate and Eagle Scout with Apalachin Troop 43. Derek was employed by KBW Bank and was on the 86th floor of the World Trade Center, South Tower. Vestal installed nearly 3,000 American flags to remember each victim of the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and Flight 93.
