The City of Binghamton will be taking ownership of the site of the Binghamton Plaza at 33 West State Street.
The City Council approved the acquisition of the plaza at the cost of $1.55 million dollars. The city secured a $75,000 grant from Empire State Development, which will be matched by city funding.
The City Council has allocated $2 million dollars for the demolition of the plaza.
The city will work with a Rochester planning firm on a feasibility study and redevelopment plans.
Currently, a pizza place, convenience store and childcare center operate out of the plaza.
