Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded in early August to an address in the Town of Harford for report of a missing person. An individual with autism had wandered away from the residence and was unable to be located, according to deputies. The individual is enrolled in the Project Lifesaver Program. Officers were able to locate the person unharmed, within five minutes of beginning the search by using the Project Lifesaver equipment.
Project Lifesaver provides first responders with equipment to quickly locate individuals who are prone to wandering away. Cortland County Sheriff’s Office is a partner of Project Lifesaver and has transmitters available for adults or children who may need the equipment.
