Domestic Dispute: Harpursville Man Hits Mother with Chair

Shortly after midnight on December 7, Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a domestic dispute on Welton Street in the Town of Colesville. Subsequent investigation revealed that Matthew Baxter, 30, Harpursville, had broken a chair over his mother’s back while under the influence of narcotics. 


His mother sustained serious physical injury and Baxter was charged with First Degree Assault, a class B felony. He was processed at the Broome County Correctional Facility and taken to CAP to await arraignment before a magistrate.


The mother’s name or the extent of her injuries or current condition was not released by the sheriff’s office.
