Mortgage foreclosure filings across New York dropped 46 percent between 2013 and 2018, according to a report issued by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. The decline in foreclosures means fewer people are losing their homes and municipalities are seeing some relief from the collateral damage associated with shrinking tax bases and neglected properties, DiNapoli said in a news release. Pending foreclosure cases in Tioga County stood at 75 last year, that’s down from 155 in 2014. Pending cases in Broome County dropped by 278 during the same time frame. Chemung County cases have also dipped during the recent years.
