Operation Hardhat: State Troopers Issue 19 Tickets in Tioga County Work Zone

New York State Police and the Department of Transportation joined together Wednesday in Tioga County for “Operation Hardhat” on State Route 17 in the town of Nichols in an active work zone. During the initiative, a state trooper dressed as a DOT worker and watched for violations, issusing tickets for speeding, operating a cellphone, not wearing a seatbelt or failing to follow the “Move Over” Law.

A total of 19 tickets were issued:

Speeding – 4

Cell Phone Use – 3

No Seatbelt – 2

Other – 10

Motorists are urged to drive responsibly in work zones.  Please follow the posted signage. Move over a lane when it’s safely possible or whenever encountering vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights.
