State Police: Be Aware, Counterfeit $100 Bills Being Circulated in Troop C

SHARE NOW

New York State Police in Troop C have seen an influx of reports of counterfeit $100 bills in recent weeks. Troopers have responded to several complaints in February, March and April. Similar cases have been reported by other law enforcement agencies throughout the area.

In late March and April, troopers from State Police Binghamton, State Police Deposit and State Police Marathon responded to complaints of a male entering Dollar General stores in Union, Whitney Point and Marathon, and the Family Dollar in Deposit, with bogus $100 bills to purchase gift cards.

In some cases, store employees noticed the bill was fake and refused to complete the purchase. In other cases, the bank notified the store after the store’s deposit was received.

If you suspect counterfeit activity:

    • Do not put yourself in danger.
    • Contact local law enforcement
    • Try to get a good description of the suspect or try to get any information about the vehicle they’re operating and a license plate.
