On Friday, September 5th, the Athens Wildcats will host the Canton Warriors under the Friday Night Lights for this year’s highly anticipated Gold Out Game, an event dedicated to raising awareness for childhood cancer.

The Gold Out tradition carries extra meaning this year, as it marks the first Gold Out game since the very original matchup — Athens hosting Canton. Organizers say it’s a special “full-circle moment” for the community.

The initiative is led by Kids Can’t Fight Cancer Alone, a local nonprofit devoted to supporting children and families impacted by childhood cancer. As part of the event, the organization will be providing:

  • Gold socks for both football teams
  • Gold/yellow ribbons for the marching band
  • Yellow bows for the cheerleaders
  • Hats for the coaching staff and referees

“These items are our invitation to ‘Go Gold’ on September 5th,” shared the organization. “They’re more than just socks or ribbons — they’re symbols of hope, unity, and a visible reminder that kids can’t fight cancer alone. We are humbled by the support from Athens and Canton, and we know this night will be unforgettable.”

Fans from both districts are encouraged to wear gold to the game in a show of solidarity. A stadium filled with gold will stand as a powerful message of strength and support for children fighting cancer and their families.
