Athens volleyball brings home District 4 championship

The Athens volleyball team brought home the District IV Class 3A championship on Wednesday night.

The Lady Wildcats cruised to a 3-0 sweep over Danville with wins of 25-20, 25-11 and 25-17 to win their first district title in 20 years.

It was an amazing turnaround for Athens, which started the season with a 2-8 record.

Kendall Galasso led Athens with 12 kills, three points and seven digs, while Kayla Forbes had 18 points, including four aces, and 18 digs. Meg Wiles had 13 points, with four aces, 20 assists and six digs; and Lainey Vosburgh added seven points, two aces, 11 digs and 12 serve-receptions.

The Lady Wildcats will host a state tournament match on Tuesday against the District 2 champion.
