Former Candor star, current coach to be inducted into Section 4 HOF

A former Candor high school standout and current boys basketball coach will be inducted into the Section IV Hall of Fame this spring.

Nate Thomas excelled in basketball and football for Candor from 1997 to 2001. He was a three-time IAC All-Star in football and rushed for over 2,200 yards and 10 touchdowns in his senior season.

Thomas played a key role on Candor’s 1999 Section IV basketball championship team.

The point guard was a leader on the court as he finished his Candor career with 988 points and 342 assists. He was a three-time IAC All-Star and the 2000 IAC Division II MVP.

Thomas went on to play basketball at Ithaca College before returning to Candor to teach physical education and coach the boys basketball team. He has led the team to an 81-37 record over the past six years.

Thomas will be inducted into the Section IV Athletic Association Hall of Fame on May 4. Look for more on Thomas on tiogacountysportsreport.com.
