Owego takes down Waverly, wins first Section IV football championship

The Owego Free Academy River Hawks made history on Friday night as they brought home the school’s first-ever Section IV football championship.

Owego took down Waverly by a 27-7 score to capture the Section IV Class B title at Susquehanna Valley High School.

The River Hawks jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as Nolan Card intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown.

Owego would go up 13-0 on a touchdown run by Dylan Brace, and led 13-7 at the halftime break.

It was all River Hawks in the second half as the defense dominated and they got touchdowns from Brace and Dom Scherrer.

Owego will play Section III champion New Hartford in the state quarterfinals on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Vestal High School. The game will be broadcast live on WEBO.
