Redskins punch ticket to states with thrilling win over NEB

The Sayre Redskins punched their ticket to the state tournament with a wild 66-60 win over Northeast Bradford in overtime in the District 4 Class AA third-place game on Wednesday night.

Sayre jumped out to a 22-9 lead, but Northeast stormed back to cut the lead to 27-24 at halftime.

In a back-and-forth second half, the Redskins would eventually take a six-point lead with 49 seconds left but Northeast didn’t go away quietly.

The Panthers went on a 7-1 run down the stretch, including a deep three-pointer from Cooper Brown with under five seconds left to send the game to overtime.

In the overtime period, NEB would take a four-point lead early before the Redskins stormed back with an 8-0 run to take the lead.

This time, the Redskins would finish the job and punch their ticket to the state tournament.

Sayre will play the District 2 champion in the first round of the state tournament on Saturday, March 8.
