Joint Sewage Board Talks Financial Responsibility

The quest for answers continues, as the Binghamton – Johnson City Joint Sewage Board try to figure out who will be held financially responsible for last month’s wall collapse.
Before the Board went into executive session Thursday afternoon, it talked insurance with the National Fire Adjustment Company.
It’s an agency that’s worked with the plant in the past. Among the tasks discussed Thursday included conducting tests to figure out why the holding wall collapsed May 16th and how much it will cost to repair the roof.
You’ll recall, Johnson City Village trustees voted to shift the responsibility of fixing the collapse to the City of Binghamton, making the city the lead agent. Questions were directed to the agent and kept general.
“At the end of the day, someone’s going to make a determination or there’s going to be some interpretation of what caused this failure. Ultimately, somebody is going to be held accountable, or maybe several people,” says Dennis Niland of NFA.
Previously, it was determined that all questions would go through Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan’s Office. A final decision cannot be made at this time.
