After a tight race and big win on election day, Broome County Executive Debbie Preston took the oath of office on Tuesday at the Forum Theater in Binghamton. Preston said she was excited to start her first full term in office and says there’s a lot of work to be done. Some of her goals for her term include opening up the Airport Corridor, continuing to save the county money, as well as taking care of any infrastructure and public transportation issues, such as ordering more buses. With regard to hydrofracking, Preston says that while it’s a decision that will come from Governor Cuomo and Department of Environmental Control, it’s still important for local leaders to evaluate the situation when the time comes, since the debate impacts so many local communities. Preston also said that within the next two weeks, Broome County will be opening a New Energy Development Office, aimed to look at multiple ways to save on energy consumption.
