The Waverly Police Chief has announced his retirement. Grady Updyke, who has served with the Waverly Police Department for 37 years, and has been chief for the past 9 years, will retire on June 27th. Several Waverly officers attended Updyke’s formal announcement, which was held on Tuesday at Waverly Village Hall. Also in attendance were former mayors, current and former village trustees, and staff members. Waverly village mayor Dan Leary will appoint a committee next week to assist in the search for a new chief. The committee will seek community and officer input for the best replacement for the soon-to-be vacant position.
