Demolition of the Owego Elementary School began yesterday morning. The building was heavily damaged in the 2011 flood. The district hopes that its replacement will be completed in the same location, two years from now. Elementary students are currently being bused to Endicott for school, some face one way bus-rides of over an hour. Demolition should be complete in 2-3 weeks. FEMA, and New York State are expected to pick up most of the cost of the initial construction.
