Senator Charles Schumer announced on Monday that $24 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency has been sent to the Owego-Apalachin School District to help rebuild the Owego Elementary. FEMA and the school district reached the funding agreement back in June of 2012, after FEMA had initially denied any funding. The federal agency only funds enough construction to make a replica of the old school, and does not fund any additions or upgrades planned for the construction. The new school is expected to be open for the 2015-2016 school year.
