Community members gathered in the Chenango Valley High School auditorium on Tuesday to discuss the closure of the Broome Developmental Center. Assemblyman Clifford Crouch of Bainbridge and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo of Endwell listened to parents, employees, and family members discuss how the closure of the center for people with developmental disabilities would affect their lives. The center has nearly 700-full time jobs with more than 150 patients. New York State has announced that it will be downsizing and closing institutions like the Developmental Center to achieve full community integration. The assembly members say they will take the information to present it to lawmakers in Albany.
