Nearly $300,000 could soon be headed to local organizations in the city of Binghamton.
The Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) presented the recommended allocations to City Council Monday night — another phase in the allocation of state and federal funds. The money would help youth programming, homelessness prevention and emergency shelters. The CDAC says they’re looking for the biggest bang for their buck. New this year is a $50,000 allocation to be spent during the next three years. That allocation is being recommended to go to VINES — a volunteer group that supports urban farming. Receiving the money over the three years is contingent on how well they do and whether they’re able to clarify their not-for-profit status with the IRS. They have 120 days from when the money is allocated to have all of their IRS issues straightened out. The allocations are expected to be voted on by City Council early next month.
