Broome County has announced it will be auctioning off over one hundred foreclosed properties. On December 14th at ten o’clock, the county will be auctioning off 135 tax-foreclosed properties at the Holiday Inn on Hawley Street in Binghamton. The properties included in the auction range from residential one- and two-family homes to vacant and commercial lots, all of which were foreclosed upon for back taxes. All properties will be sold as they are, including properties which are currently violating codes. Those violations will need to be addressed by the buyer, but county officials still say all of the properties will serve as great prospects for new businesses or families. Some of the properties will be shown during open houses this weekend. The 135 properties are spread throughout Broome County, and officials say typically urban homes sell at a 40 percent discount, with the outlying properties selling at market value. In order to secure the property, bidders will have to make a ten percent down payment on the sale price, or pay $500, whichever is greater.
