Community members and officials at the Owego-Apalachin school district learned at a board meeting last night that all site construction and groundwork at the new Owego Elementary is progressing as planned. The final bids from contractors for the construction of the school are due on Tuesday, a deadline that was extended by a week because of the recent holidays. The bids will be awarded at the next board meeting at the end of January. Currently, land is being brought in to raise the site of the building above the flood plain, and Superintendent Dr. Bill Russell expects this portion of the work to be complete within the next week. The school is scheduled to be open for the 2015-2016 school year.
