Police warn local residents about a so-called “Grand-Parent Scam.” The scam starts with someone posing as a family member in need of money. Quite often, they will try to solicit a family member’s name from their victim before asking for the money. The scammer will ask you to wire them the money, or send a prepaid card in the mail. They will also ask that you do not tell anyone else about the incident. Authorities say the best way to avoid such a scam is to first know of the scam, and secondly, contact the family member who is supposedly in need of money, and ensure that it is indeed them.
