A second-alarm fire in the town of Maine left a family without a home last night. Crews from six departments responded just after 6:40 pm to the fire on Old Newark Valley Road. Flames poured out of the front of the home as fire crews battled the blaze. They also dealt with deep snow that had built up around the building which in some spots piled up to more than two feet. Crews attacked the flames and were able to quickly extinguish the fire that was mostly contained to the front of the home. A woman and two children were inside when the fire started. All three escaped without injury. The initial investigation shows an electrical malfunction is the likely cause.
