A house in Broome County suffered significant damage after a fire yesterday afternoon. A call came in at approximately 2:40 for a fire at 125 Old Newark Valley Road in Union Center. According to dispatch, flames were visible from Route 38. Numerous stations responded to the fire, including the town of Maine, Union Center, Newark Valley, West Corners and Endicott Fire Departments. Glen Aubrey also supplied a tanker to the scene. Three people live at the residence, but fire investigators said nobody was home when the fire started. There were no injuries. According to investigators, the fire started on the first floor and was difficult to fight due to high winds. The home suffered significant smoke and water damage. A cause for the fire is still under investigation.
