The League of Women Voters of Broome & Tioga Counties hosted a discussion yesterday, focusing on the lack of affordable, quality local childcare. A panel of speakers said this dilemma is due to a shortage of new workers entering the child care field, as well as the overwhelming process caregivers have to undergo to become state licensed. Officials from Tioga County’s Childcare Resource Referral said there are only two licensed childcare centers county wide. Speakers said they hope the presentation will help recruit new providers, and rally more support for those already in business.
