A dog is dead after a bear attacked the pet right near its home in Candor. The DEC is now taking steps to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Ron Donahue lost his dog Hercules on Saturday. He heard his dogs barking at something in his backyard on Briggs Allen Road in Candor, located off Straits Corners Road. Ron walked into his backyard and that’s when he saw it — a bear face-to-face with his dog. The bear grabbed Hercules by the neck, killing him instantly. The DEC came to his house to set up a trap for the bear, trying to bring back peace of mind for Ron and the area.
