The Superintendent of the Owego-Apalachin School District will retire at the end of this school year. Dr. Bill Russell asked the district’s board of education to accept his letter of resignation last week. The board accepted his resignation, effective June 30. By the time he retires, Dr. Russell will have spent 10 years as the district’s superintendent. During his tenure, the district had to deal with the Flood of 2011, which destroyed the Owego Elementary School and other buildings. Dr. Russell has been busy dealing with those various projects and told the board he is confident he will leave Owego-Apalachin in a good position to move forward with their new facilities. The board has already started a search for his replacement.
