New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has vetoed a bill that would have allowed veterans to retire sooner. The bill, entitled ,”The Veterans Equality Act,” would have allowed all veterans to add the years they spent in the armed forces to the years spent working in the public sector to reach retirement requirements sooner. Currently, only WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, and some Gulf War veterans are eligible for this opportunity. The bill was unanimously passed in the Senate and only received one “no” vote in the Assembly. Lawmakers will have the chance to override the Governor’s veto when they return to session after the elections.
