A couple from the Town of Candor has lost their life savings and one local contractor is behind bars following a recent scam. Gregory and Carrie Maier of Candor hired local construction company Freelance Construction and Concrete to build their dream home. The couple was asked to place $22,000 down before construction could begin. But even after the exchange of money, construction did not begin. The couple met with a representative of the company, Timothy Rympkema, to file paper work to amend their contract, and also to ask where their money went. The couple was not given any information on where their money had gone to, and was informed by New York State Police that this is a criminal matter. Rympkema is currently being held at the Tioga County Jail without bail.
