The State of New York will pay $1.6 Million to a woman who was hit by a state trooper while riding her bicycle in Whitney Point. Mary-Margaret Smith of Virginia was visiting family in the area on July 5th, 2010 when the accident occurred at the intersection of Collins and Liberty Streets. Initially, the defense had argued that Smith was riding her bicycle in the intersection at the time she was hit by the trooper. However, it was later determined that the trooper took the corner too sharply when he swerved into Smith’s path and struck her.
