It looks like Binghamton will have a new hockey team next year. The Albany Times Union is reporting that the New Jersey Devils are ready to move their AHL team from Albany to Binghamton for the 2017-18 season. The move is expected to receive final approval from the AHL Board of Governors this weekend. The Devils’ AHL team has played in Albany for the past seven seasons, but the franchise has ranked near the bottom of league attendance each year. The Binghamton ownership group will pay the New Jersey franchise $2 million and provide the day-to-day staff to run the AHL team. The Binghamton Senators are moving to Ontario after this season. Albany has had an AHL team since 1993.
