Binghamton Mayor Rich David unveiled his plans for 2017 and beyond in his State of the City Address last night. To fight crime, the mayor unveiled his “Operation: Safe City” plan last night. The initiative will install license plate readers around the city that will scan each car as it enters city limits and cross-reference it with law enforcement databases. To fight blight, Mayor David says the city has received a federal grant to tear down 27 properties that were destroyed in the Flood of 2011. Also in the address, Mayor David laid out his plans to reduce residential and commercial taxes, rebuild a portion of Route 363, and start a collaboration with CHOW to provide a shuttle for north side residents to be taken to a grocery store.
