The City of Binghamton wants to harness the power of the Susquehanna River by adding a hydroelectric plant at Rockbottom Dam. Mayor Rich David says the city will work with Gravity Renewables to design, build and operate the plant. When it is done, the mayor says the plant could power city hall and other locations downtown, and save the city $8 million over the next 20 years. The hydroelectric plant will cost close to $10 million and around seven years to build. The Rockbottom Dam runs between Shore Drive and Conklin Avenue, just east of the Exchange Street Bridge.
