32-year-old Omayra Martin of Elmira has been charged with felony Criminally Negligent Homicide and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The charges were announced Tuesday by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office following an April 2017 car crash on West Hill Road. Martin was traveling east on West Hill Road, when she allegedly lost control of the vehicle hitting a ditch, striking a tree, overturning the vehicle, and coming to rest on its roof. Martin and 5 juvenile passengers were transported to local hospitals with injuries. 3 were airlifted to trauma centers with life threatening injuries. One passenger, 15-year-old Alishia Butler, of Elmira, died at the scene. Martin is being held in the Chemung County Jail pending her arraignment in Chemung County Court.
