There’s political drama developing in the city of Binghamton. The mayor, Richard David, is under fire from a former candidate for the job. Tarik Abdelazim sent an email to the media Tuesday questioning a reduced property assessment for the mayor. He claims the reduced assessment drops the property tax bill about 27%. Abdelazim says his information comes from a city employee. He claims the mayor recently sold property across the street for a hefty profit. The former candidate said if Mayor David’s property on one side of the street doubled in value, how is it that his other property right across the street lost almost 30% in value? The City’s former Director of Planning, Housing and Community Development is calling for a city investigation. Abdelazim says he’s expects blowback from his email to the media.
