UPDATE: New York State Police at Ithaca have located 51-year-old Frederick A. Knapp of Lansing. He was located not too far from his residence and tranported to Cayuga Medical Center for a medical evaluation. He did not appear injured. Police thank the public for their assistance in the matter.
ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE: New York State Police at Ithaca are searching for Frederick A. Knapp, 51, of Lansing, NY, to check his welfare. Knapp may or may not be in possession of a long gun or rifle. His mind set is not known at this time.
Knapp is approximately 5-foot 3-inches tall, weighs 120 pounds and was last seen wearing jeans and a dark gray sweatshirt.
Troopers were originally dispatched to Knapp’s residence on Locke Road in the Town of Lansing at approximately 7:45 p.m. Sunday after a family member called 911, fearing that Knapp might harm himself and was in possession of a long gun. Knapp did not make any threats to anyone else or police.
State Police were assisted by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department and Bangs Ambulance. Early today, it was discovere Knapp was not in his residence and troopers immediately began to search the neighboring area.
If you see Knapp, do not approach him. He may or may not be in possession of a long gun or rifle. His mind set is not known at this time, call 911 or Tompkins County Dispatch at (607) 272-2444.
