BINGHAMTON, NY — A man and a woman are facing multiple charges after being found in a vehicle that was reported missing and fleeing police.
On Monday, September 30, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol observed a 2010 Toyota Corrolla that had been reported missing earlier that morning by a Town of Fenton resident.
The vehicle, containing a male driver and female passenger, had pulled into a driveway on Bevier St in the City of Binghamton when the responding BCSO patrol pulled in behind it and activated their emergency lights. The vehicle then accelerated into the yard, driving through a fence into the yard of a residence on State St in an attempt to escape police.
As patrols began circling the area, a 911 call came in from Chenango St, reporting that the vehicle had struck a building and come to a stop, with the occupants fleeing on foot.
With BCSO patrols and City of Binghamton Police now searching the area, 911 calls from community members continued to come in, detailing the whereabouts of the fleeing suspects, with Broome County Dispatch relaying that information to responding patrols.
The female passenger, Hailey M. Blank, age 21, was located on Cary St and taken into custody by BCSO deputies. Blank was found to have several glass smoking pipes and a plastic container containing a white crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine on her person.
Bystanders informed police that they had observed the male, Rodney E. McCormick, age 20, running across Chenango St before cutting back along the bank of the Chenango River. BCSO patrols located and successfully brought McCormick into custody without further incident.
Following the investigation, the suspects were processed on the following charges:
Rodney E. McCormick was charged with:
– Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree, a Class E Felony
– Two (2) counts of Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree, Class A Misdemeanors
– Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor
– Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor
-Several Traffic Violations.
Haley M. Blank was charged with:
-Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor
-Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree
After processing, McCormick and Blank were turned over the Binghamton Police to answer for multiple warrants and charges related to the property damage incurred. Both individuals have been remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Binghamton Police in this investigation.
