The Village of Bath is close to having a new chief of police.
The village trustees announced Wednesday that they have made a conditional offer to Donald Lewis, who is currently with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
The position has been vacant since the beginning of January following the retirement of the previous chief.
Lewis is currently a criminal investigator and assistant SWAT commander with the sheriff’s office, where he has worked since 1998. He also previously worked as a part time officer for the Village of Bath from 2003 to 2008.
The offer is contingent on Lewis passing a civil service exam and background check.
