Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham has announced that the Salvation Army on Washington Street will be closed indefinitely following a stabbing earlier this week.
Binghamton Police arrested Michael W. Brutvan for the murder of 57-year-old Endicott resident Kevin L. Ray.
Police responded to the Salvation Army at around 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of a stabbing. The victim suffered stab wounds to his shoulder and neck. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Kraham said in a social media post that the city will work with the Salvation Army on temporary locations or operations.
The Binghamton Mayor also said it’s clear that having these services in a downtown commercial district is not in the best interest of public safety for residents, small businesses and the Salvation Army.
